News from Trossachs Osprey Hide
24th March 2025
Very first osprey of the season. Was around the hide/farm for about 3 hours this lunchtime.
25th February 2025
We are nearly ready for the 2025 osprey season. We have taken a slice off the bank in front of the hide and taken out some of the small trees/shrubs either side. Internally we have taken the shelf out of the right hand side, but have provided moveable smaller shelves if required. We will be keeping on top of the weed and reeds in the pond throughout the season. We are hoping this will suit most visitors. Photos to be uploaded shortly. Looking forward to the arrival of the ospreys towards the end of March.
22nd November
We did some work on the bank in front of the hide this week. We will do a little bit more next week and hopefully this will make a difference to the hide experience. We are going to alter the shelving in the hide and cut back some more of the vegetation to widen the view.
16th September
We are now closed although we still have at least one Osprey here. Making a few changes to the hide for next year. Prices should remain the same.
22nd August
We have put even more fish into our pond to help the Ospreys fish! They are very much still here and would expect them to be for at least a month more.
30th MAY
After a few ‘quieter’ days, this morning has seen 6 separate visits to our pond from Ospreys!
23rd May
We have decided to amend the timings of the early morning session as the ospreys are fishing earlier than we anticipated.
16th MAY, at the moment no two days are the same with the Ospreys. Quieter yesterday. Today, lots of activity!
1st MAY
That’s the morning sessions starting at 5.30am. Already this morning there have been Otters and several Ospreys.
30th April
Its been a bit hit and miss over the last few days. You either get plenty of birds or sessions with very few. We are seeing Ospreys right through the day into the early evening.
23rd April, its been a long sunny day, with various birds about. A lot of circling and less dives. However this evening has bucked the trend ( evenings being quiet) with at least 3 diving birds 5-7.30pm.
20th April
Lots of activity from Ospreys and also Kingfishers. Best time at the moment seem to be early morning through to early afternoon.
14th April.
We opened yesterday and have already had very positive feedback. We seem to have at least one new bird ( Blue LH2). Already pictures posted on Instagram and Facebook and soon onto this site.
8th April
Looks like 3 pairs back now. Wildlife camera picks up several Ospreys and a beaver!
5th April
It looks like we have 2 pairs of birds back at the moment. Very early days, before last year we never had birds back before 6th April. Otters and Kingfishers about also.
7th March 2024
We are gearing up for the new Osprey season. We have moved the hide nearer to the ponds and changed the arrangement of the shelf in one side of the hide to allow for use of tripods. Please take a look at the recent video of the hide. We are also cutting back some of the trees either side of the hide to improve the view of the pond.
30th September
We are now CLOSED for the 2023 season and will reopen in the middle of April 2024. We are offering the option to buy gift vouchers from £30 and up.
2 September, at least two Ospreys still here and fishing
30th August. Likely the Ospreys have departed.
Lots of sightings of Herons, Kingfishers, Otters. Woodpeckers and Nuthatches amongst the woodland birds.
18th August
We are extending our opening to allow viewing of otters and other wildlife in the early morning and evening from September to November at a reduced rate of £20 per person.
8th August
Check out the photo on the BBC Scotland News page, recently posted by Tom Kelly.
Through the Winter we will keep the hide open for a couple of short sessions daily, to view Otters and other wildlife.
4th June
We have decided to change the time for the early morning session to 5am - 8am. As it is so much lighter the ospreys and the otters are fishing earlier. We are keeping the cost to £30 for this session.
14th May
Still regular visits by the ospreys, there is no pattern to their visits though. You may have noticed that we have changed our morning session, reducing it to 2hrs rather than 3hrs and reducing the cost down to £30. We have done this as we think the activity on the farm, which starts about 8am, may have a negative impact on the experience. Anybody who had previously booked the 3hr session will still be able to do this. This is our first year of operation and we are still feeling our way!
28th April - Despite the rain our early morning visitors were lucky enough to see an otter eating a fish on the pond bank along with 3 ospreys.
24th April - We are officially Open!
We have continued to have up to 7 visits a day by several ospreys. The males are now being joined by the females.
We had our first paying visitors this afternoon and they have given us great feedback. They were fortunate to see 3 separate dives by ospreys within the first 2 hours of their visit.
